Kumar Shah, PE
Kumar Shah’s career began in 1961 in his native India, where he worked as an engineer and later as a lecturer at L.D. College of Engineering. After his arrival in the United States, he completed post-graduate studies before joining Severud Associates in 1969 as an engineer. In the five decades since, Kumar has become expert in almost every structural system and material. He is an in-house authority on computer modeling, the analysis of lateral force resisting systems, and the design of specialized structures such as cable-supported roofs and guyed transmission towers. In addition, he has engineered many buildings for physical security and blast loading and has mastered designing for structural integrity and the prevention of disproportionate collapse. Kumar has contributed his expertise to many high-profile and complex projects including One Vanderbilt Avenue and the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, two of the tallest office buildings in New York City, the “Transformation” of Madison Square Garden, also in New York City, as well as the Chicago Title and Trust Building in Chicago, Illinois.
Kumar is licensed as a professional engineer in New York. He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from L.D. College of Engineering in Ahmedabad, India and a Master of Science in civil engineering from Mississippi State University.
