After Hurricane Sandy, Severud Associates and the team redesigned this 16-story, multi-discipline research building with flood resistant features, including an elevated first floor, a pile-supported “bathtub” foundation, and flood barriers. Steel framing for 10 floors of laboratories limits vibrations to 2000 µin/sec. A combination of braced and moment frames forms the lateral system.
