This steel-framed addition to a teaching museum originally built in 1985 increased the total area and gallery spaces by half. Severud Associates designed a free-standing stair tower with a central space frame from which the landings and flights cantilever. The existing pressure slab was ex-tended at the addition; where the expansion was overbuilt, existing footings were reinforced.
