Weeksville Heritage Center Education & Cultural Arts Building -
Brooklyn, NY
Architect: Caples Jefferson
Area:
23,000 Sq.Ft.
Completion Date: 2014
This two-story education and cultural center acts as a gateway to the remains of a 19th c. African-American settlement. A 60-foot-wide entryway, framed with upset steel girders, provides a view of the glazed passage that connects the center’s two buildings. Severud Associates’ design of the exposed structural steel included fully welded connections to emphasize the simple aesthetics.
