Mercersburg Academy, Burgin Center for the Arts

This steel-framed arts center was set into a slope to reduce its above-grade profile. Using a careful arrangement of hangers and transfer girders, Severud Associates was able to create column-free space for the 600-seat Broadway-style theater, recital halls, and studios. Portions of the center are clad with full-height glass curtain wall, making the space appear luminescent at night.
