The challenge at the Forum was to redesign the existing roof and ceiling grid so that heavy gear for featured acts could be suspended from above. Conventional reinforcement was insufficient for the desired load capacity so Severud Associates created a modern-day version of a dome, adding a new compression structure atop the existing cable-and-ring tension structure.
