As part of the design, Severud Associates framed each upper floor of this five-story library with 15-foot cantilevers to maximize space and minimize visibility of columns; steel tubes tie the cantilevers to control deflections. The roof also features striking overhangs. With many sustainable features, the library was the first publicly funded building in NYC to receive LEED certification.
