Students are housed in 242 “micro-apartments,” spread over 14 stories, in this School of Visual Arts dormitory. Framed with reinforced concrete flat plates, columns, and shear walls, the building rests on spread footings. Severud Associates designed transfer girders at two levels to create roof setbacks, which are used as amenity spaces, and walking columns at smaller building offsets.
