The landmarked shell of the Eighth Regiment Armory will be preserved while all of the existing interior structure is demolished and new cellar levels are excavated. To occupy this expanded volume, Severud Associates will design a parking garage, retail spaces, and nine NHL-regulation hockey rinks on two levels. Independent framing will preclude seismic retrofit of existing structure.
