This concrete and steel structure was designed by noted Italian engineer Pier Luigi Nervi in 1963. By moving bus operations to the roof, 120,000 sq. ft. of space became available for the Mercado, an uptown retail destination. Severud Associates designed reinforcement of existing steel and new framing to provide improved vertical circulation, bus waiting areas, and a fitness center.
